It was officially announced today that former WWE superstar CM Punk will make his UFC debut at UFC 203 in Cleveland.
The announcement came on the UFC Unfiltered podcast that Punk, who signed with the UFC back in 2014, will make his debut against the 24 year old Mickey Gall (2-0). Gall is coming off an impressive first round submission victory over Mike Jackson at UFC Fight Night 82: Hendricks vs Thompson.
Punk’s decision to transition into MMA was met with mixed reception and there had been great debate whether or not he would actually fight in the UFC, but after over a year of training with Duke Roufus at Roufusport it now appears as though that debate can finally be put to rest.
“This is my new career, 100-percent, I’m going to go full steam ahead, all systems go after today, and it’s going to be fun. I have nothing but respect for everybody here at the UFC, everybody who steps in the Octagon to fight. And when it’s all said and done, when I’m finished, everybody’s going to have to respect me because I have come here to fight.” Punk said in 2014 of his drastic career transition to the world of mixed martial arts.
After many speedbumps which saw his debut rescheduled time and time again, Punk has finally been cleared of all serious injuries and the date is now set for his highly anticipated UFC debut which will come on September 10 in Cleveland, Ohio at UFC 203 which will be headlined by the heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem.
